New Mexico State University's National Scholars Program is dedicated to recruiting high school students participating in the National Merit, National Achievement, and National Hispanic scholarship recognition programs. We are delighted that you are interested in joining our community of scholars.

We are proud of our record in attracting the best and brightest students to New Mexico State. Over the past several years, the number of National Merit and National Hispanic Scholars enrolling at NMSU has steadily increased. These National Scholars engage in cutting-edge research projects with NMSU's best faculty. They also receive special mentoring to prepare them for graduate and professional schools and for competition for major postgraduate scholarship. By choosing NMSU, you will be joining some of the region's finest students and will be eligible for NMSU's most prestigious scholarships.

Students must list NMSU as their first school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to receive these awards.

National Merit Finalists (both in and out of state) are automatically awarded a National Merit Finalist Scholarship. Included in this award are:

  • Tuition and Fees – $2,226 (in-state); $7,090 (out-of-state)
  • Stipend (per semester) – $1,500
  • Room and Meal Allowance (per semester) – $2,750
  • One-Time Study Abroad Scholarship – $1,000
  • New Laptop Computer

Additional benefits include special research opportunities, Crimson Scholar status, and membership in the Honors College.

National Merit Semifinalists (both in and out of state) are automatically awarded a National Merit Semi-Finalist Scholarship. Included in this award are:

  • Tuition and Fees – $2,226 (in-state); $7,090 (out-of-state)
  • Stipend (per semester) – $1,000

Additional benefits include special research opportunities, Crimson Scholar status, and membership in the Honors College.

National Hispanic Scholars (both in and out of state) are automatically awarded a National Hispanic Scholar Award. Included in this award are:

  • Tuition and Fees – $2,226 (in-state); $7,090 (out-of-state)
  • Stipend (per semester) – $1,000

Additional benefits include special research opportunities, Crimson Scholar status, and membership in the Honors College.

Both in and out-of-state National Achievement Scholars are automatically awarded a National Achievement Scholarship. Included in this award are:

  • Tuition and Fees – $2,226 (in-state); $7,090 (out-of-state)
  • Stipend (per semester) – $1,000

Additional benefits include special research opportunities, Crimson Scholar status, and membership in the Honors College.
