Honors and General Education

Lower Division General Education Requirements

Depending on when you first enrolled at NMSU, your General Education requirement will be one of the following sets of requirements. Honors courses satisfying these requirements are listed below:

(1) For Students who first enrolled at NMSU prior to Fall 2007, lower division General Education requirements consist of the following:
Part I: Developing Critical Thinking & Modes of Expression
Mathematics: HON 275G
Philosophy: HON 228G
Part II: Establishing a Common Background
Basic Natural Sciences: HON 219G
Human Thought & Behavior: HON 203G, HON 237G
Social Analysis: HON 248G
Literature: HON 220G, HON 229G, HON 234G
Fine Arts: HON 208G, HON 270G
 
(2) For students who first enrolled at NMSU in Fall 2007, lower division Gen Ed requirements consist of the following courses from the New Mexico General Education Common Core:
Area I: Mathematics/Algebra (3 cr)
HON 275G
Area II: Laboratory Science (8 cr)
HON 219G
Area III: Social/Behavioral Sciences (6-9 cr)
HON 203G, HON 237G, HON 248G
Area IV: Humanities and Fine Arts (6-9 cr)
HON 208G, HON 220G, HON 228G, HON 229G, HON 234G, HON 270G

Viewing a Wider World

All students at NMSU are required to take 6 credits of Viewing a Wider World from 2 colleges other that their own. Honors course satisfying the Viewing a Wider World requirement are noted by colleges, using the following codes:

AG: College of Agriculture    ED: College of Education
A&S: College of Arts and Sciences ENG: College of Engineering
BA: College of Business HS: College of Health and Social Services
