Hello, my name is Toria Kovacs. I chose NMSU because this is the University where my mom graduated from. I enjoyed hearing her college stories growing up, and decided that I would try NMSU to keep the tradition alive. I am from Aztec, NM. I am majoring in Secondary Education with my emphasis in math. I am a Senator for the College of Education in ASNMSU and I participate in intramurals through the Rec center. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, traveling, and participating in sport activities. I also enjoy reading and baking. As of right now, my favorite song is Irresistible by Fall Out Boy. My favorite quote is one from Dr. Seuss’s Oh the Places You’ll Go! “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
My favorite thing about the Honors College is the amazing courses that are offered. I have only taken one honors course, but it was by far one of the best classes I have taken. I also really enjoy the adaptable uses that the Honors College provides, such as lockers for storage and an amazing lounge area. I would recommend the Honors program because of the amazing opportunities it can give students. The classes and instructors are amazing, and the program can help students become better leaders. I plan to graduate with my B.S. in Education in the next two years and then head right into a Master’s program for education. Other than this, I really just want to continue to see as much of the world as possible. If I was giving advice to say a person about to graduate high school, I would say not to limit themselves. College is a place for exploration and deciding what a person wants to be. It is okay to be unprepared and terrified of what comes next. That’s life, but if you maintain a positive attitude and set personal goals, then your future will be amazing! Take every opportunity you can to make yourself a better and wiser person.
