Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts
The Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts Symposium, now in its twenty-second year, is the longest-running student symposium at New Mexico State University. Since 1996, more than 1,500 students have presented their work at the symposium. Many of these students have gone on to graduate school, law school, and medical school, and a few have returned to NMSU as professors.
URCAS is intended to recognize outstanding undergraduate research and creative projects and the faculty who have mentored them. It is also meant to show off the work of creative undergraduate students to the university and the community. And, of course, presenting at the symposium gives our students valuable professional experience.
The symposium is an annual celebration of undergraduate creativity in all fields. Represented here are some of the most advanced and creative projects presently being undertaken at NMSU. Many of the students who will be presenting are completing Honors Thesis projects, while others have worked with mentors in laboratories and other research and arts settings through the MBRS-RISE, MARC, AMP, the Howard Hughes Institute for Medical Research, CAMP and other mentoring programs.

How to Participate
To participate in the Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts Symposium, you must submit a proposal with your advisor’s signature and an abstract.

Abstracts and Proposals due by Friday March 17, 2017 at 5 PM
Presenters must submit an abstract of no more than 100 words. Abstracts should conform to the disciplinary conventions of your field. For details, see Abstract Guidelines. To submit your finished abstract and register for URCAS, go to Abstract Submission.
Symposium participants must be sophomores, juniors or seniors in any discipline who are completing substantial research and/or creative projects under the mentorship of faculty advisors.
Poster sessions as well as sessions for scholarly papers, slide presentations, artistic exhibitions, and fiction readings will be scheduled. Oral presentations should be limited to 15 minutes in length. Tables and easels will be provided for poster presentations.
