Honors College Scholarships

New Mexico State University offers a number of competitive, merit-based scholarships for talented high school students. Our goal is to support and develop our community of Honors students.

The major academic scholarships at NMSU include:

National Scholars Awards

New Mexico State University offers competitive scholarships to National Merit Semifinalists, National Hispanic Scholars and National Achievement Scholars. For more information about these scholarships, visit our National Scholars Program web page.

The President's Associates Honors Scholarship

The President's Associates Honors Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship available to students at New Mexico State University. It is awarded to new entering freshmen with markedly superior academic ability. Selection is competitive and based on proven academic achievements and extracurricular activities.

National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists are particularly encouraged to apply. National Merit Finalists will be considered for enhanced PA Scholarships.

  • Award: Tuition and Fees and $1,750 per semester
  • Additional Benefits: Crimson Scholars status, membership in the Honors College, participation in the PA Scholars Enrichment Program
  • Requirements: 3.75 HS GPA and an ACT composite of 28 OR 3.5 HS GPA and an ACT composite of 30.

  • Deadline: January 16, 2009

The NMSU Leadership Scholarship

The NMSU Leadership scholarship rewards academic achievement and leadership. A limited number of scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis using same application procedure as the PA Honors Scholarship.

  • Award: Tuition and Fees and $1,000 per semester.
  • Additional Benefits: Crimson Scholar status, membership in the Honors College
  • Requirements: 3.75 HS GPA and ACT composite of 28; OR 3.5 HS GPA and ACT composite of 30.
  • Deadline: January 16, 2009

Crimson Scholarships

The Crimson Scholarships are awarded to all incoming in-state Crimson Scholars. They are awarded at two levels: Crimson Academic Scholarship (awarded automatically based upon Crimson Scholar eligibility), and Crimson Honors Scholarships (awarded on a competitive basis by application).

Crimson Honors Scholarship

  • Award: Tuition and fees plus $500 per semester. Awarded on a competitive basis by application; students who have applied for the PA/Leadership Scholarships do not need to separately apply and will be automatically considered for Crimson Scholarships.
  • Additional Benefits: Crimson Scholar status, membership in the Honors College
  • Requirements: 26 ACT composite score OR a 24 ACT and 3.75 High School GPA.
  • Deadline: March 1, 2009

Crimson Academic Scholarship

  • Award: Tuition and fees plus $250 per semester. Automatically awarded upon acceptance to NMSU if student meets requirements.
  • Additional Benefits: Crimson Scholar status, membership in the Honors College (upon application)
  • Requirements: 26 ACT composite score OR a 24 ACT and 3.75 High School GPA.
  • Deadline: March 1, 2009
