Extra Credit
Assignment Guidelines
The topic for the week is Islamic Philosophy and Science. The presentations will take place over two days, and requires a minimum of four students. If few that four students opt for the assignment, the presentations will limited to either the first or the second day.
The topics of the presentation will be:
Day 1:
A general presentation of the history of medieval Islamic philosophy and science. The presentation should include a discussion of the origins and development of Islamic philosophy, of the major scientific thinkers and schools. Two or more students may work on this.Day 2:
For this seminar, students will organize and present a debate on the controversy over the legitimacy of science. This debate requires a minimum of two students.Students may earn up to 100 points of additional credit for participating. You will be graded on thoroughness of research, quality of content, and effectiveness of presentation.
Students must sign up for the extra credit
assignment no later than November 3.
