April’s Student of the Month

Hi. My name is Ryan Singh. I am from Ukraine, the “sunflower country”. I was born and raised near a major city called Sumy, located in the northern part of the country. I chose to attend NMSU primarily for its exceptional nursing degree program. NMSU offers an outstanding nursing program that trains its students to become extraordinary nurses to fulfill the dire need of healthcare professionals across the state.  My major is nursing with a minor in community health. I am proudly involved in the Collegiate FFA, CRU, and the College of Health and Social Services Council. My plans for the future are to obtain a Master’s degree in Nursing, head off to medical school to become a medical examiner/pathologist, and become a positive asset in the world. Outside of school I simply enjoy cooking for my friends, hanging out with my friends, running cross country around Tortugas Mountain trails, and lending a hand for my community such as my church and El Caldito Soup Kitchen. My favorite song is “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. My advice for students would be to always challenge yourself in a way that you can learn from and become a stronger individual. But always remember not to over challenge yourself as it only sets you up for failure and disappointment. My favorite quote is from Jean Maalouf: “Kindness holds the key to the secret of our own transformation, and in the process, the transformation of our world.” My favorite thing about Honors College is the interesting and unique courses that are offered particularly to Honors students. The courses are fun to take as they are not the ordinary and general education courses that every student is required to take. I would recommend the Honors program to other students as it allows the person to achieve extraordinary college success, and it teaches and provides life skills in becoming well-rounded and distinctive individual.a photo of Ryan Singh
