December’s Student of the Month

Cailee Nelson – “Don’t be afraid to go see the professor and introduce yourself”Headshot

I am a freshman here at NMSU and am from Albuquerque, NM. My major is Psychology, and I’m hoping to get a minor in business. Outside of school I love to spend time with my friends and sorority sisters in Chi Omega and I love to play volleyball. I also participate in volleyball club and am looking forward to playing in the upcoming intramurals. My favorite book would have to be A Farewell to Arms by Earnest Hemingway. I have always wanted to visit Greece (partially because of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) so if I could choose to be anywhere at this moment that’s where I would go. My favorite quote is: “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believe that it is stupid” – Albert Einstein

My favorite thing about the Honors College is that it’s like a little community that’s a part of a bigger community. You really get to know your professors and the people in the Honors College and they get to know you. In bigger classes where you feel like you might be just another number, don’t be afraid to go see the professor and introduce yourself. It helps a lot! I would recommend the honors program to other students because like I said before it’s a small community that makes you feel important and a part of something special.
