Featured Alumni: Zachary Abbott | September 2019

Meet Zachary Abbott, alumni of the month. “I was born and raised in Alamogordo, NM among my mother, father, older brother, older sister, and grandparents. My parents and siblings are all NMSU alumni with degrees ranging from Nursing to Microbiology to Information Technology. I graduated from NMSU main campus in 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Some of my favorite classes include Calculus 3 with Professor Lodder, Intellectual¬†Property for Scientists and Engineers, and Intro to Philosophy. Literature as Film with Professor Fouillade was my favorite Honors Class; now, every time I read a book, I look to see if a film was made after it. I’m not very familiar with internal changes NMSU has gone through since I graduated, but driving by a few times over the last two years, I see a lot of new building going up and old ones coming down; that’s good to see the campus getting some updates. As far as hobbies go, I like gardening (homegrown green chile every year), cooking, baking, and fixing/upgrading my Jeep. I think the most important thing I gained at NMSU was self confidence. Through hard work and will power I earned my degree; that really boosted by confidence. I’d say what I like best about NMSU has to be the Honors College. It always seemed to me to be the perfect program for helping students who are serious about big research projects, regardless of their discipline or financial standing.”
