Prospective Students
As a student in The Honors College, you will have the best of both worlds: challenging General Education course in small seminar classes and the rich resources of New Mexico’s land-grant university.
With more than 3,500 Crimson Scholars on the main campus, the Honors College serves a student body drawn from every department on campus and creates a vibrant and diverse community that encourages the exchange of ideas.
How Do I Become a Crimson Scholar?
If you have been admitted to NMSU and meet the eligibility requirements for the Crimson Scholars Program, you are automatically a member of the Honors College. It’s that simple. There’s no cumbersome application process, no forms to fill out. Each semester that you meet Crimson Scholar eligibility requirements, your membership in the Honors College is automatically renewed. Each semester that you qualify as a Crimson Scholar, you will be notified through your NMSU email address. However, should you ever have questions about your Crimson Scholar status, please contact us.
This means that if you are eligible to be a Crimson Scholar, you are a Crimson Scholar.
As a Crimson Scholar, you are eligible to take any honors course, receive priority registration, join the Honors Living Learning Community, and get access to all of the services and programs offered through the Honors College.
University Honors Program
Are you interested in making more of your university education experience? Then consider completing the University Honors Program. This flexible academic program coordinates with all majors and minors on campus and is designed to enrich your educational experience consistent with the mission of NMSU and the Honors College. Students that complete this work graduate with University Honors Distinction on their permanent transcripts!
Honors courses are NOT faster and harder – they are intended to enrich your education!
The Honors academic program includes 18 credits that are coordinated with requirements and opportunities in your regular academic plan. From your first-year gen ed classes to your senior capstone in your major, most Honors classes will double count with your other coursework. Honors also helps structure special opportunities for study abroad, research with professors, service-leadership experiences, and all kinds of other enriched learning experiences.
You do NOT have to apply to be in the University Honors Program. If you are a Crimson Scholar you are automatically eligible.
New high school graduates…please do consider applying for the Honors Living Learning Community and enroll in the Honors First Year Seminar for the best start to your Honors experience!
