The Honors College at New Mexico State University—New Mexico’s first honors college—offers talented and motivated undergraduate students the experience of a highly selective, small liberal arts college together with the opportunities of a large public research university.

As a student in The Honors College, you will have the best of both worlds: challenging General Education course in small seminar classes and the rich resources of New Mexico’s land-grant university.

With more than 3,500 Crimson Scholars on the main campus, the Honors College serves a student body drawn from every department on campus and creates a vibrant and diverse community that encourages the exchange of ideas.

How Do I Become a Crimson Scholar?

If you have been admitted to NMSU and meet the eligibility requirements for the Crimson Scholars Program, you are automatically a member of the Honors College. It’s that simple. There’s no cumbersome application process, no forms to fill out. Each semester that you meet Crimson Scholar eligibility requirements, your membership in the Honors College is automatically renewed. Each semester that you qualify as a Crimson Scholar, you will be notified through your NMSU email address. However, should you ever have questions about your Crimson Scholar status, please contact us.

This means that if you are eligible to be a Crimson Scholar, you are a Crimson Scholar.

 

Benefits of the Crimson Scholars Program

As a Crimson Scholar, you are eligible to take any honors course and you will receive all the privileges of membership in Crimson Scholars. As a Crimson Scholar, you are not required to take honors courses, although there are many advantages in doing so.

Are you interested in making more of your university education experience?  Then consider completing the University Honors Program. The University Honors Program is a flexible program of study designed to enrich your educational experience and will help you develop your talents and passions consistent with the mission of NMSU, your field of study, and the Honors College.

Once admitted to the Honors College, students may pursue degrees in any of NMSU’s 87 undergraduate majors, with the option of a dynamic Honors Living Learning Community, research opportunities, cultural programs, advisement, preparation for graduate or professional school, study abroad opportunities, and mentoring for prestigious national and international scholarship and fellowship competitions.

In addition, world-renowned researchers in every discipline will engage you in hands-on research projects and will inspire your curiosity and challenge you to explore the world around you in new and different ways.
