How to Graduate with Honors

Graduating with Honors Distinction: 18 Credits

We work with your major so you can graduate with Honors. Follow these three steps:

Step 1

Honors (HNRS) Courses

9–15 credits

Start here! Course suggestions:

  • HNRS 1115 – Honors First Year Experience
  • HNRS General Education and VWW courses
  • Other options, such as Fellowship Writing or Study Abroad

Step 2

Optional Credits

Up to 6 credits

Take up to 2 classes outside of HNRS:

  • Contract Classes: courses in your major adapted to be Honors classes
  • Masters Accelerated courses

Step 3

Honors Capstone

Required · 3 credits

Choose one capstone option:

  • Substitution: usually for Nursing or Engineering majors that already require a capstone course
  • Research/Creative Project: develop and implement a project with a faculty mentor
  • Internship: complete a capstone project at your internship
